Video: Dënver - "Lo que quieras"

Dënver is probably Chile's best-kept secret in all its almighty new pop wave, they’re not new to the scene but new to the transcontinental buzz they’re so deservedly getting lately. The band is entirely new to many of us, we want to scream breakthrough band of the year, but they have a couple of releases under their arms, which we are of course, just discovering. Truth is, with barely two songs they’ve shown to the public, we can already smell a potential tour de force in the works. The album is titled Música, gramática, gymnasia and is produced by acclaimed producer Cristian Heyne, that very same guy responsible for those wonderful albums by Gepe and Javiera Mena.

“Lo Que Quieras” is the profoundly touching first cut from the album, it’s absorbing the second it starts and builds itself up to a beautifully raw and hummable climax. It’s like a beautiful Triangulo de Amor Bizarro song, but even more tuneful and harmonious, perfectly adequate for a romantically violent song in the best of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Dënver’s lyrical sensitivity is so well captured by the music’s epic crescendos; instead of stars, they'll bring you planets, and it’s hard not to feel goosebumps when that “y si quieres matar a tados…” moment arrives. And that video, I can hardly describe how gratifying it is to see visual medium match a melody’s warmth, it doesn’t happen very often.
